Dr. Ellis O’Neal Cooper is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon. Prior to joining Orthopedic Specialists of Louisiana, Dr. Cooper served a distinguished military career as an orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas; and as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery 28th Combat Support Hospital in Bagdad, Iraq. He also served in Landstuhl, Germany; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Bosnia-Herzegovenia; and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He has been awarded over a dozen military honors, including two Meritorious Service Medals. Dr. Cooper, a Shreveport native, completed undergraduate studies at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, before graduating from the University of Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his Internship and Residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Additionally, Dr. Cooper completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and The Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He has also co-authored a number of published research papers that have been presented to civilian and military surgical organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Cooper is married with three children, aged 6-14.
